Picks Against Parkinson – music, uniting people for a solidary cause

Constancio Gutiérrez Rodrigálvarez started working in the organization of musical shows and concerts in 2000. He is a very esteemed person in the live music production scene due to professionalism and kind personality.

Back in 1995 he started collecting picks, passes, tickets and wristbands of important concerts.

He currently has a collection of more than 10,000 guitar picks from different concerts, such as Metallica, which he has seen over 60 times.

He has had the opportunity to work with many of the the biggest bands in the world, including AC DC, Rolling Stones, Coldplay, U2, Alice Cooper, ZZ Top, Guns N’ Roses, Muse, Judas Priest, Slayer, Madonna, Beyonce, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Rammstein, Iron Maiden, amongst others.

He explains that the most difficult pick he managed to get hold of was Bob Dylan’s as Dylan doesn’t like his name printed on the picks.

Three years ago, while he was tying his shoes, he discovered something was going wrong and after a few months of tests and analysis, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD), a chronic, degenerative condition of the brain and nervous system, associated with lack of coordination, difficulty walking, muscle stiffness, agitation and slowness of movement. The cause of the disease is unknown, and there is currently no cure.

Guti (as he’s known in the business), is a highly motivated activist working hard to raise awareness and give visibility to this neurodegenerative disease, he is also member of the “Asociación Catalana para el Parkinson”.

In addition to the “Asociación Catalana de Parkinson”, there is another national association: the “Asociación Española de Parkinson” that gives visibility to the 150,000 people suffering from Parkinson in Spain.

He affirms that there is still a lot to be done to raise awareness of this disease and aprreciates he has been very lucky to work with people who help him and with whom he feels comfortable.

The world of Rock n’ Roll and musical entertainment continues to support him and give him great opportunities. He has been working for more than 18 years as a Runner, and now he has made the leap into the fascinating world of production.

Music produces “euphoric sensations”, he affirms, and people with Parkinson’s disease can really benefit from it.

Guti knows many people who, like him, suffer from PD and share a common goal with the Catalan Parkinson’s Association: to give more visibility to the disease.

That’s why he has created the project “Picks Against Parkinson”, and one of his activities will be to organize a solidarity concert to raise money for PD research. They would like to unite the “three M’s”: Muchachito Bombo Inferno, Macaco and Manu Chao, since these three artists collaborate with solidarity and charitable causes.

The concert will be held on April 11, 2024, World Parkinson’s Day, at the Apolo in Barcelona and all funds raised will go to the Vall d’ Hebron EP Research Institute.

He invites you to participate.
